Mandela Day Takes Careline into Eastwood
Mandela Day took Gift of the Givers Careline Counselling Services to Ward 34 in Eastwood, Pietermaritzburg.
A community once labeled as gangster's paradise with criminal activity, substance abuse, early teenage pregnancies and a growing rate of school leavers which stemmed mostly out of poverty. All this community needed was someone to show an interest in them to be motivated sufficiently to change their situation.
GOTG Careline joined forces with the community to fight the social ills and poverty. A non functional soup kitchen was revived through donating some food hampers in addition to garden tools, fertiliser and seedlings. A piece of land was available to this community to start a vegetable garden. It is hoped that the yield from these gardens would provide the vegetables for their weekly soup kitchen making them less dependent on handouts.
Our great leader, Nelson Mandela said: “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.”
