01/12/2015 - GOTG Careline Supports 16 Days of Activism
On the 1st of December 2015 Gift of the Givers Careline, the psycho-social support wing of the Gift of the Givers, were invited to the TPA Primary School in Pietermaritzburg to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism for violence against women and children and World Aids Day. Lotus FM, a national broadcaster, was there to mark this event on the airwaves
GOTG Careline addressed both parents and children with regard to Gender based Violence. Amongst other important points they were encouraged to speak out against it whether they were experiencing it or knew someone in such a situation. The effects of domestic violence on children and how it could impact on their adulthood was highlighted. Parents were asked to heed their children's complaints and treat them seriously. In majority of the cases perpetrators are known and closely related to the victim. To report such violations is a moral and legal obligation.
Lotus FM asked GOTG Careline to talk about their counselling services on air. Mr B. Sewpersadh, the school principal, expressed his gratitude to GOTG Careline for their continuous support and assistance to the school. He encouraged parents and pupils to take advantage of the various services offered in the community.
Stamping out this vicious cycle of abuse is each and everyone's responsibility – every man, woman and child.
