31/12/2017 - Tornado in Gauteng
Compliments of the New Year to you. Our apologies if we are disturbing your well deserved rest as many of you may still be on vacation.
The destruction from the Tornado in Gauteng on 30 December has been extensive affecting hundreds of homes spread out in a vast area. The houses include formal and informal dwellings, with destruction of infrastructure, furniture, equipment, clothing, food and in some cases, vehicles. Those affected include insured and uninsured. Gift of the Givers assessment and interventions took place concurrently, immediately following the aftermath of the disaster on 31 December 2017 and 1 January 2018 in spite of our offices being closed and all our staff away for a well earned rest. Today, 2 January, some of the staff who could make it, voluntarily terminated their vacation and arrived at Gift of the Givers Logistics Centre in Bramley at 6am to prepare a humanitarian aid package for those in desperate need. Our vehicles are being loaded with tents, food parcels, blankets, clothing, mattresses, diapers, sanitary pads, detergent packs, bottled water, stationery, sweet packs and building material.
Contributions from companies or the public of any of these items are welcome.
