Decisive Interventions by Gift of the Givers

Desperate cries of help from farmers in Laingsburg, Mossel Bay and Aberdeen necessitated Gift of the Givers expanding our fodder intervention in Sutherland into these areas. Western Cape MEC for Finance, Dr Ivan Meyer, accompanied our fodder distribution in Laingsburg on Friday, whilst our geohydrologist, Dr Gideon Groenewald, co-ordinated distribution in Mossel Bay on Saturday. Mossel Bay will receive more loads on Wednesday and Aberdeen on Thursday.

Several parties have requested our intervention in the current crisis in Hermanus. Our advance teams were on site on Saturday and today in preparation for our response.

Following a highly successful Mandela Day initiative in various parts of the country we congratulate Marinus du Plessis, who on behalf of Gift of the Givers, has broken the world jet ski record of 3000km in his arctic2athens adventure. Marinus, who broke the record 30km from Netherlands, intends to set a new world record of 11000km. This record is in honour of Mandela, the physically challenged and autistic individuals.

Further Mandela Day activities include stationery distribution with Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga on Thursday, and a sporting event with soccer great, Lucas Hadebe on Saturday both in Johannesburg.

We have produced a "video appeal" by Shiraaz Mahomed's mother to be circulated in Syria, in a renewed attempt to secure the release of the South African journalist held there since 10 January 2017.

Please follow our Facebook page @GiftoftheGivers to keep abreast of these and many more events.
