250 tornado victims served chicken curry with rice by the Gift of the Givers team.
The MEC of Health, Qedani Mahlangu, assisted the team by hnding out meals.

Aftermath of Flash Floods

Gift of the Givers Emily Thomas empathises with Mariam Chauke, mother of the 3 year old girl, Everlast, who may have drown during yesterday's flash flood. The family were in their home when a torrent of water and debris washed their shack away. The family has been re-homed at the Gift of the Givers Project Higher Ground Village in Alexandra.

Search and Rescue Team

The search for the 3 year old who was swept away by the flash floods in Alexandra continued over the weekend. A joint operation command centre had been set up by City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services. COJEMS, ORRU, SAPS K9 and Diving Unit and Gift of the Givers Search and Rescue and K-9 unit have been working together to search for the toddler along the Jukskei River.

Meal Distribution at Primrose Fire Station

As the rain continued to cause destruction Gift of the Givers moved to the Eastrand Makause informal settlement. We are working in partnership with disaster management.

The distribution of blankets and warm soup and bread took place at the Fire Station in Primrose where people sought shelter from a heavy downpour of rain.

Gift of the Givers Responds to Flash Floods in JHB

Following the sudden downpour and flash floods in and around Johannesburg late yesterday afternoon Gift of the Givers received requests from the City of Johannesburg to assist.  The first was for search and rescue as two people were missing.  Our team led by Ahmed Bham joined the search but by 11 pm it had to be called off as the risk was too high given the strength of the raging waters.
