24/09/2018 - Boosens Informal Settlement Fire

Gift of the Givers assisted Disaster Management at the Boosens Informal Settlement - Ward 124, where 30 shacks were burnt. 50 people were affected. 30 food parcels, 30 blankets, nappies and Red Lion noodles were handed over to assist the shack dwellers. Fortunately no injuries or deaths were reported.

On the 6th of September, Gift of the Givers assisted families in Vanderbijlpark, who were left with nothing when their houses burned to the ground. The cause for the fire is still unknown. We arrived on the scene with the following:

  • 10 packs of nappies
  • 5 boxes of 2 minute noodles

3 people hospitalized after a candle fell causing a massive fire at a Cato Manor informal settlement which destroyed 35 shacks. Gift of the Givers responded with 35 food parcels, blankets and mattresses.

Gift of the Givers responds to shack fire at Clearoven informal settlement, Randburg.

The fire, caused by an unattended candle, started yesterday morning at around 03:00. Approximately 263 people affected with 1 fatality and a few burn wounds.

Gift of the Givers is on site distributing food packs, mattresses, blankets, tents, shoes and baby diapers.

70 shacks burnt down in Region F on Friday evening at the Denver informal settlement at approximately 23h30. The cause of the fire is unknown. Sadly an elderly lady lost her life as a result of smoke inhalation and 150 people including children were affected by devastating fire.
