Aid Distribution in Limpopo Districts

Nonstop rain caused major damage to property and has waterlogged roads in Limpopo's Waterberg District which has been declared a disaster area by the Municipality. On our previous visit to the areas, to do an assessment, our vehicle got stuck in the mud where we had to wait 4 hours to be pulled out by a tractor. Gift of the Givers have been in close communication with the Waterberg Flood Disaster Management to identify areas worst affected by the floods.

The rain persists but the Gift of the Givers teams are currently en route to 6 flood affected municipalities with R1.2 million in aid to 500 families in Modimolle, Mookgophong, Mogalakwena, Lephalale, Thabazimbi and Bela-Bela which will receive aid over 2 days, 8 & 9 April 2014. Generously sponsored by Santam, Vodacom, Unilever and Ernst & Young, the aid packages consists of Food Parcels, Hygiene Packs, Blankets, Vegetable Packs, Corrugated Sheeting, Plastic Sheeting, Wooden Planks, Water Drums, Clothing and Shoes. Two schools in the Modimolle Municipality were identified and will receive new Furniture and Stationery together with Fruit and Sweet Packs.
