Adelaide Tambo School for the Physically Challenged Gets New Wing
In honour of the late Mrs Adelaide Tambo, Gift of the Givers officially opens a new wing at the Adelaide Tambo School for the Physically Challenged in Soweto. Comprising four classrooms, an ablution block for boys and girls, staff room, a combined tennis, netball and basketball court this R1.6 million facility has been supported by the sponsorship from the Memon Association of South Africa, Stanlib and FEED. This facility is an extension of Gift of the Givers five year involvement in this school having collectively spent R3 million in the development of infrastructure, the addition of an Olympic swimming pool, an outdoor chess set, specialized equipment for the specific needs of these children, wheelchairs, stationery, food, blankets and the funding of travel to local and international destinations for sporting and educational purposes.
Special guests include Dali Tambo, Sello Hatan from the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory and Lucas Sithole, a South African who won the US open singles title in a wheelchair. The school is situated at 3132B Diokane Drive, White City, Jabavu, Soweto. The event commences on Friday, 23 May 2014, at 10am.
