16/09/2012 - CPUT EMS Smoking Awareness Project

GOTG in partnership with CPUT EMS offered a workshop on smoking awareness at Silukhanyo Primary School in Asanda Village, Strand on Sunday, 16 September 2012 from 1 pm until 5 pm. The workshop was attended by over 180 people, mainly children.  It was a joint initiative between the Service Learning and Emergency Medical Sciences Departments of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and Gift of the Givers with the assistance of SAPS Lwandle.  A fascinating presentation was given by a guest speaker from Be Free Lifestyle, and the audience had the opportunity to participate in fun quizzes and to make smoking awareness posters.  The children also had the opportunity to inflate a pair of sheep's lungs, to better understand respiratory anatomy and the adverse effects of smoking.  A fun and educational day was had by all.

Gift of the Givers provides meals & refreshments.
