08/05/2013 - Launch of Winter Warmth at Oriental Plaza

The Star newspaper, SA Post Office, Nedbank and GOTG have joined forces this year to spread warmth in Gauteng launching the 2013 Winter Warmth blanket distribution campaign.

The Post Office has made 19 of their branches available in Gauteng as well as Timberland outlets for the public to drop off their blankets in our collection boxes. Our goal is to distribute 10 000 over this chilly season and to monitor this The Star has placed a barometer in their daily newspaper.

The Caring Women’s Forum donated R50 000.00 toward the project and assisted the GOTG team with the launch of the at Oriental Plaza. The event was set to commence at 6pm but people had started queuing at 11am, indeed a highly anticipated event. 3000 recipients were warmly welcomed with hot soup, leaving the Oriental Plaza feeling like they had just attended a winter celebration.

Metro Police maintained order and helped control the crowd of recipients and onlookers.
