Flood 2001

Mozambique had been threatened by floods at the beginning of 2001. On January 3, the north-western province of Tete had its farmland flooded. At the end of January, Quelimane, the capital of Zambezia had suffered a tropical storm which brought heavy rains. On 26 January, 17 000 people were reported to be affected by the floods in six districts, and by 30 January, the provincial government of Zambezia announced that 250 000 were affected by the storm.

Gift of the Givers Response:

We acted in response to Mozambique's 2001 flood chaos by supplying some 100 tons of relief supplies, in the form of tents, rescue blankets, plastic sheeting, hygiene packs, water purification tablets and food.
