By addressing the menstrual needs of girls, we are able to simplify their school careers and, fundamentally, keep them in school. A vital part of our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme is menstrual hygiene management, which involves the delivery of underwear and re-usable sanitary pads, together with the training of adolescent girls, teachers and mothers on the construction of re-usable pads.
Each girl receives a pack of re-usable sanitary pads and underwear, coupled with pad-making training. Training serves two purposes, as it meets an immediate need, as well as providing a skill with the potential for development as entrepreneurs.
One cannot quantify the return on investment when a child is afforded access to quality education. Through education, a world of possibilities and opportunities become ripe for the picking.
