More than half of Malawi’s population live below the poverty line for a variety of reasons, with poor education, a lack of resources and opportunity at the core of the problem. With a shoddy foundation upon which to rely, living standards remain inferior and the cycle of poverty continues, resulting in malnutrition which exacerbates the inability of people to work effectively.
Through our entrepreneurship project, Gift of the Givers trains individuals to successfully manage small businesses, by selling high-demand products, such as fresh produce and providing a range of services, such as dressmaking. Training includes budgeting skills and, once complete, budding entrepreneurs are equipped raw materials, a bicycle with vending carriers - if needed - and start-up capital. By providing the quintessential tools for successful entrepreneurship, this grass-roots project breaks the cycle of poverty one family at a time. The income earned meets the individual's immediate needs and perpetually sustains families over generations through the development of individuals.
