Rural and remote communities lack the infrastructure for running water and rely on impure sources to meet their needs. This poses a serious health risk. Additionally, drought has caused dams and water reserves within established communities to dry up, resulting in an insufficient supply, to no running water at all. Poor families are worst affected as their only hope is to purchase bottled water which places a heavy burden on their meagre budget.
Gift of the Givers initial response was to provide bottled water nationwide. After looking for more feasible, long-term, and environmentally friendly alternatives, we decided to install water storage tanks in strategic positions, making accessibility easier for schools and communities to collect and replenish their supply.
