Empowering Communities

“TOGETHER, WE EXPLORE PROJECTS THAT RISE TO SOCIAL CHALLENGES AND UPLIFT GENERATIONS TO COME.”

The severity of challenges faced in Malawi's education sector has led to an inferior quality of education.

In 1994, the then new multi-party Government introduced the concept of 'free primary education' for all Malawians, which witnessed a massive number of children enrolling at primary schools. However, such free education and the influx of learners has proven somewhat problematic as regards infrastructure, sanitation and hygiene, consumables, learning materials and human resources. There are too few teachers attempting to cope with a high volume of learners in too small infrastructural environments.

Gift of the Givers works with the country's Department of Education, at District level, in an effort to address some of the challenges faced by educational institutions.

At school level, we work closely with School Management Committees, Parent Teacher Associations and Mothers' Group Committees, responsible for overseeing the management and development of schools.

In the earliest years of life, children need nutrition, protection, and stimulation for healthy brain development. New Dawn Early Childhood Development Centre provides free education to children from low-income families. Their objective is to ensure that children learn to read and write before starting primary school. However, due to hunger, children's attendance was affected, as they opted to stay at home and eat whatever they may find instead of going to school. To bridge the gap between hunger and education, Gift of the Givers has been providing New Dawn with nutritious food to provide breakfast and lunch for the children since 2020. The goal of the assistance is to ensure that no child is robbed the right to access free early education due to hunger. The donation which comprises of cream of maize, cooking oil, salt, corn soya blend porridge, beans, eggs, vegetables, rice and soya pieces benefits a total of 105 children monthly.Since we started supporting New Dawn, 140 children have gone through the early learning and preparation for Primary education milestone and are now enrolled in Primary Schools. To join our interventions, visit :🌐:http://www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference#GiftoftheGivers #makeadifference#forthegreatergood #31YearsofServingHumanity#education #educationalsupport #Malawi ... Despite a countrywide shortage of cement, rehabilitation works at Mphatika Primary School located in T/A Kasisi in Chikwawa district are on track for the school block. The school block which was ravaged by cyclones Anna and Freddy is slowly having a new face. We are aiming to have the school block completed before schools reopen in September. Once finished the school block will endure that the students are learning in a safe environment away from the harsh weather conditions they were facing learning under the trees . Our construction supervisor is on-site, collaborating with the contractor to guarantee that all construction requirements are met. Our Engineer is making regular monitoring visits to ensure the quality of construction will withstand future cyclones.Together we can make a difference :🌐:http://www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference#GiftoftheGivers #makeadifference#forthegreatergood #31YearsofServingHumanity#education #Malawi ... Students at Mazila Primary School T/A Maseya in Chikwawa District will no longer experience water-related disruptions during classes as the Gift of the Givers Foundation plans to drill a borehole on the school premises. The school was identified by the District Water office, along with other villages without access to safe, clean water, as part of the needs assessment for our upcoming borehole drilling project. We plan to drill 9 boreholes in various farming communities in the district.Mrs. Agness Matchona, the group village headwoman, expressed her gratitude and stated, "Once this borehole is drilled, students will no longer miss lessons looking for water to drink as this area gets very hot. This would considerably boost these pupils' performance because they will spend more time in class."Together we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference📞 : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#WaterProvision #Education #Boreholes #Malawi ... Two months after assessing the dilated classroom block at Mphatika Primary School in T/A Kasisi in Chikwawa District, Gift of the Givers identified and organized resources, as well as a contractor, who has begun the rehabilitation works. The school building was battered last year by the various storms as well as this year by Cyclone Freddy, which blew off the roof and caused significant clacking in the walls.Mr. Gift Whayo, the school's headmaster, was all smiles when we arrived and said, "I am happy that, despite this region being in a hard-to-reach area, Gift of the Givers has once again come to our rescue in the hour of our greatest need. Once completed, this classroom block will allow for a high turnout rate of pupils who were learning under trees and were subjected to significant absenteeism, particularly during harsh weather conditions."Education is one of our six key priority areas, and in 2022 we built VIP toilets at the same school after discovering that the sanitation facilities were in disrepair. The toilet to student ratio was too high at 160 students to 1 toilet, now it has been reduced to 40 students per toilet after our intervention.Together we can make a difference :🌐:http://www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference #ForTheGreaterGood#Education #Malawi ...
