Empowering Communities In Malawi

“TOGETHER, WE EXPLORE PROJECTS THAT RISE TO SOCIAL CHALLENGES AND UPLIFT GENERATIONS TO COME."

In 2020, of 189 countries measured, Malawi was placed 174by the UN HDI; a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development, being:

  • A long and healthy life;
  • Access to knowledge; and
  • A decent standard of living.

According to World Bank data, statistics reveal that Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and the lack of opportunity within the country simply perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

In a heart-warming collaboration between Gift of the Givers and Al Khair Foundation, we have recently made a profound difference in the lives of families in T/A Nkoola, Machinga District. Together, we gifted these deserving families with 10 beautiful, decent houses, bringing newfound hope and comfort to their lives. πŸ’–πŸ For far too long, these families endured living in dilapidated houses, without ever daring to dream of owning a comfortable home. Their lives were marked by hardship and suffering, often unable to acquire even the most basic household items like blankets and kitchen utensils. πŸ˜”To address these pressing challenges, Gift of the Givers stepped in with compassion and generosity. We provided the families with essential necessities including plates, buckets, blankets, pots, cups, shoes, and sleeping mats, ensuring they can now live with dignity and comfort. πŸ›ŒπŸ½οΈπŸ•―οΈBut our support didn't stop there. To enhance security and create a vibrant environment for these families, we also installed solar lighting systems in the newly-built houses, ensuring safety and a sense of community for all. β˜€οΈπŸ’‘This intervention wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support of our partners and donors. Together, we have truly made a lasting impact on the lives of these families, giving them hope for a brighter future. 🌟🌍Together we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-differenceπŸ“ž : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31YearsOfServingHumanity#Humandevelopment #shelter #Malawi ... Gift of the Givers is thrilled to announce a new collaborative initiative, aimed at transforming the lives of sesame farmers by providing them with the necessary expertise and strategies to enhance profitability and reduce poverty.For years, sesame farmers in Chikwawa district have suffered exploitation at the hands of local vendors, with no established markets to sell their produce after harvesting. But change is on the horizon. In collaboration with Japanese corporations, Itochu Corporation and Takamoto Oil, we have embarked on an ambitious project to construct two warehouses in Chamanga and Saopa villages, T/A Ngabu in Chikwawa.These state-of-the-art facilities will offer secure storage for sesame yields and create vital connections to international markets, ensuring farmers receive fair prices for their hard work. Speaking at the ground-breaking event, Itochu Corporation's Deputy Manager, Masahiro Shiraishi, emphasized the partnership's importance of ensuring that farmers are supported to produce high quality and high volume of sesame seeds to be imported to Japan.Chamanga village agriculture stakeholder panel chairperson, Tamani Mkuzi, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that this project will significantly improve the lives of 3,687 sesame farmers in the area. "This initiative will liberate our farmers from the cycle of exploitation and pave the way for a brighter, more prosperous future," he remarked.Together we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-differenceπŸ“ž : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Entreprenuership #Malawi ... Just three months ago, Dziwani Pilo, a 30-year-old from T/A Nkola in Machinga district, was one of seven beneficiaries to receive a bicycle from Gift of the Givers with support from One Nation UK. Today, we're excited to share his incredible journey of empowerment and entrepreneurship! 🌟Using the bicycle to transport people, Dziwani has not only raised enough money to buy another bicycle but is now planning to employ someone to operate it. His vision is clear: to expand his business, save more money, and eventually buy a motorcycle. 🏍️Dziwani shares, "We've been losing potential customers to motorcycle transporters, as most prefer motorcycles over bicycles. I believe owning a motorcycle will help me make more money and build a decent house for my family."Dziwani's story is a testament to the transformative power of small acts of support. His determination and entrepreneurial spirit are truly inspiring! 🚴‍♂️πŸ’ͺTogether we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-differenceπŸ“ž : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Enterprenuership #Malawi ... The resilient partnership between Gift of the Givers and One Nation continues to create immense transformation in the lives of many vulnerable families in Malawi. Today, we are thrilled to share the heartwarming story of Hanifa Mapata and her family from Mode Village in Chileka.Hanifa’s husband lost his sight a few years ago due to illness, making it incredibly challenging for Hanifa to provide for their family of 10. Living in a tiny, grass-thatched home, their living conditions have been extremely difficult. During the summer, some children are forced to sleep outside due to lack of space, and in the winter, the entire family crams into the small, unsafe house to escape the cold and rain.But now, thanks to the generosity of One Nation and the dedicated efforts of Gift of the Givers, Hanifa and her family are about to move into a new, spacious, and safe home. Hanifa expresses her excitement and hope, knowing that their new home will be a world away from their current dilapidated shelter.In addition to the Mapata family's new home, another house is being built for the Imam who will lead daily prayers at the nearby mosque, also built by One Nation on land donated by Hanifa’s family.This housing project is not just about building structures; it’s about building hope, security, and a brighter future for families like the Mapatas. With each brick laid, we are witnessing the transformation of lives and the birth of new stories of resilience and success.Join us in celebrating this incredible journey of transformation and the power of community support! πŸ’š:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-differenceπŸ“ž : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Shelter #Malawi ... "My house used to collapse every rainfall season, and sometimes during strong winds. We were therefore forced to sleep in the open before having it reconstructed again", these were the experiences of Abigail Makwemba for as long as she has lived. Abigail, 58, and Elida Cassim, 67 come from poor households at Makalani village in Blantyre in dilapidated houses unsafe for shelter. They are beneficiaries of the shelter project by One Nation where they have received two beautiful houses constructed by Gift of the Givers with funding from One Nation UK. The project which has taken close to 3 months to complete has brought joy and happiness to the two beneficiaries and the people in the community as this is a step closer towards the 20 houses One Nation promised to construct at Makalani Village. With the addition of these two houses, a total of 12 houses have been constructed at Makalani village so far.Together we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-differenceπŸ“ž : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Shelter #Malawi ...
