With an under-resourced public healthcare sector and private medical services too expensive, chronic treatment is not reaching the poor, resulting in patients, in many instances, succumbing to their illnesses through an inability to function normally, disability or even death.
The Gift of the Givers healthcare project in Palestine serves the poor in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, with special priority being afforded to those worst affected by the humanitarian crisis. The organisation's health service offerings are co-ordinated and provided through local health organisations and the Department of Health. Gift of the Givers also has in place an agreement with the private sector for subsidised treatments.

In response to the complete destruction of Darrussalam Hospital in Khan Younis Governorate, we have established a new field hospital on the same site to provide medical care to thousands of patients and casualties in the region. This facility aims to fill a critical gap in health services, as Darrussalam Hospital previously provided primary health care for tens of thousands of patients. We have laid the groundwork for establishing a new medical point in northeastern Gaza, within a school for displaced families. This facility will serve the thousands of displaced and stranded families in the north who currently have no access to health care.The project had previously been initiated in another school in the north, and significant progress had been made. However, the school was bombed by the Israeli occupation forces, and orders were given to evacuate the site. Our project to integrate medical students into Gaza's health system is making excellent progress. These dedicated students are now actively helping the injured and those affected by the ongoing conflict. The initiative aims to give nursing students from Palestinian universities in Gaza hands-on training to deal with real-life emergencies and develop vital skills. Their work in existing hospitals and medical centres is not only educational, but also a lifeline for a health system stretched to its limits.In the face of devastating attacks that have destroyed 33 hospitals and killed more than 500 health workers, these 50 soon-to-be graduates are bringing hope and much-needed support to Gaza's strained health infrastructure.
