Quality education is achieved by a variety of elements including infrastructure, personnel, learning material and overall environment. The poor are worst affected by the poor state of public schools in South Africa and for a number of reasons slip through the cracks and fail to complete their education. The cycle of poverty perpetuates, therefore, itself.
Gift of the Givers is committed to improving education in South Africa through its bursaries, school infrastructure interventions. The learners are hungry for an education which means that half the battles is won. During the school holidays, #GiftoftheGivers visited Venice Mine📍, where many vulnerable families are facing increased challenges. With children at home all day, parents and grandparents shared the growing pressure of providing more than one meal, especially as many depend on irregular piece jobs to survive.In a moment that brought both relief and hope, the team carried out an unexpected distribution of basic food and hygiene packs to 116 children. This support came at a deeply meaningful time, easing the burden on families and bringing visible gratitude from parents and caregivers.Despite these hardships, the children’s strength and determination stood out. Many walk long distances to school each day, holding on to their dreams of becoming teachers, nurses, doctors, and engineers.
