Before the civil war, villagers drew water from wells. Since the onset of war and with communities fleeing their villages in search of safety, the feasibility of drilling new wells for water is no longer viable.

Gift of the Givers recognises that for many in Yemen, survival is dependent on water availability and in light of this, we have broadened our activities to include the delivery of potable water.

Using three water tankers, we draw water from desalination plants and large, well-established water wells. The Gift of the Givers team delivers more than 1 million litres of clean water every month within three provinces in Yemen, with 1 500 people benefiting daily from this intervention. 

Apart from IDPs, our water project also supports the educational and medical sectors, including a vital Kidney Dialysis Centre - which requires some 30 000 litres every day in order to function - and a University Student Accommodation facility in Taiz.
