Water Purification

The major focus is on finding sustainable sources of groundwater. This is implemented in two ways: 

1. Groundwater augmenting main supply – where the existing or new boreholes pump water into the reservoirs. 
2. Standalone supply – existing or new boreholes were equipped with pumps and a network of pipes, tanks, and taps to create multiple service points from the single borehole.

In both instances the water is properly tested to see if water is potable by sending samples to accredited labs for testing. Gift of the Givers developed an affordable, adaptable, and mobile water filtration system which is sometimes used in certain areas where the water quality is not suitable for drinking. This was designed under expert guidance and consultation with experts in the Western Cape, Gauteng, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal. 

Additionally, Gift of the Givers provides Point of Use solutions that purifies water collected from existing, unsafe sources such as a river, making it safe and drinkable within informal communities. This is done in instances where disasters have occurred and people are exposed to the possibility of cholera and other water-borne diseases.
