Handover of 20 Boreholes in Mangochi District

Gift of the Givers hosts an official handover ceremony carried out on 28/08/2015 for the 20 boreholes sunk in 20 villages in Mangochi District.

The project was implemented in 2014 with funding from the Government of Japan being the second time upon completion of the first borehole project carried out in Balaka district in 2013.

The 20 boreholes were handed over to the 20 communities by the Minister

Potable water is an essential element every human being must have so as to sustain good health. Most villages in Malawi do not have access to clean sources of water. As a result, cholera and other water-borne diseases are rampant which cause many deaths. We continuously sink boreholes in various parts of the country to lessen the suffering.

8 Boreholes in Chikwawa on 17 November 2015

The project was funded by the Government of Japan from 2011 through another organization but it has just been completed this year by Gift of the Givers Foundation upon request by the Embassy of Japan. The Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka was the Guest of Honour.  The function was attended by government officials including the District Commissioner of Chikwawa.

Handover of 23 Boreholes in Balaka District

 

Gift of the Givers, in partnership with the Government of Japan through its Embassy in Lilongwe, sunk 23 boreholes in 18 villages in Balaka District. The programme has benefitted over 13,000 households.

The State President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Joyce Banda officially handed over the boreholes to the people of Balaka District on behalf of the two organizations.
