Hunger Crisis in Somalia Again
Somalia faces hunger once again after the major famine of 2011. Although not as massive as that disaster, fifty thousand children are in serious risk of malnutrition and many of the population faces hunger at various levels. Your response in 2011 was overwhelming. That response assisted us in feeding 120 000 people per day, providing medical assistance and setting up a temporary hospital.
Our offices are well established in Mogadishu since that period. We have set up seven medical centres as we expand into various parts of Somalia. In December 2013 we responded to the cyclone in Puntland at a cost of 80 000 usd. Dr Hashi, our Somali representative, has urgently requested food and medical supplies. Gift of the Givers is dispatching containers of aid from our warehouses in Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg. Items in kind delivered to our Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Johannesburg facilities will be most appreciated. Cash contributions can be made to Gift of the Givers, Standard Bank, Pietermaritzburg, Account No. 052278611, Branch Code 057525.
