Yemen: An Unfolding Human Catastrophe

"Send as much food as you can. Each area we go to is worse than the other. Logistics, security, frontlines, obstructive armed groups, all hinder our capability to deliver, but deliver we must even if it costs us our lives, for these are our people and we stand by them". This message from Gift of the Givers teams inside Yemen.

Gift of the Givers opened an office in Yemen in August 2012. Since then we have been actively involved in assisting one of the poorest countries in the world. On 10 January 2014, Anas al Hamati secured the unconditional release of Yolande Korkie, captured by Al Qaeda. Our Projects in Yemen include:

1. Providing Food Aid to Malnourished Children.

2. Providing Food Parcels to University Lecturers, Doctors and Families in general as the economy has collapsed. Most essential services are provided by dedicated people in spite of not receiving one cent of income.

6. Distribution of Water. Yemen is one of three least water resourced countries in the world. By drilling boreholes and having purchased 3 water trucks we are delivering 8 million litres of water per year.

7. Building Houses in the Blind Village.

In the province of Hajah there is an area called "blind village". Most of the inhabitants here suffer from a genetic disease that leads to blindness in almost all family members. Gift of the Givers has been building houses for the families. In time we envisage providing all 90 families with a new home.
