13/02/2017 - Food Distribution in Chikwakwa

Distribution of food parcels, plates and cups to the 80 families who were affected by hailstorm last December in Chikwawa has been successfully carried out. The support has been well received, reaching out to them at the right time as most of the families had literary nothing to eat.  Most parts of Chikwawa district have been hit by drought while other areas have suffered floods. Both conditions have accelerated food insecurity among the people.  Our support of food parcels has come at the peak of the hunger situation. Both the recipients and Government officials are very thankful for the kind support given to them. The exercise started very late because the area received heavy rains for the first time in February. The people indicated that the last time rains came in the area was on 28th January.

Cataract is the most common cause of avoidable blindness in Malawi. The most disheartening thing is that people who are blind due to cataract conditions need not be such at all as there is a service that can be provided to make sure that they regain their sight.

Blindness, per se, has a tremendous and negative social impact on affected individuals as well as on their families and the community at
