Ridding the Sobantu community of crime is of utmost importance to the SAPS in Pietermaritzburg. The resounding voice of the community was heard bringing 200 police men and women together to the Sobantu hall. Discussions took place and plans were made to help make the community feel safer. The SAPS provided a meal to the community whilst GOTG distributed:

Mrs Bantam takes care of 10 orphans at the Ladysmith Orphanage. Although these children have been abandoned, they are surrounded by much warmth and love at the home. GOTG distributes bulk food which we hope would make a substantial difference in their day to day living. The parcel consisted of:

On the morning of Saturday, 22 September 2012, an intrepid group of young adventurers set off on an overnight hike in Cape Point Nature Reserve. This was part of a Service Learning Project, which was a joint initiative between the Service Learning and Emergency Sciences Departments of Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and the Gift of the Givers. Colonel Ursher of the Montain Rise Police Station in Pietermaritzburg organized an Appreciation Day for Police women at her station. These selfless women dedicate their lives to serve and protect our communities daily. The event took place at Golden Horse Casino's Rockafellas where the ladies enjoyed a delicious meal and received 60 Personal Hygiene Packs.

Pietermaritzburg Association for the Aged (PAFTA) in Northdale takes care of many senior citizens from the surrounding communities. GOTG distributes 175 Personal Hygiene Packs to this fun loving group.

The SAPS embarked on a community awareness campaign to support Child Protection Week. They visited 4 local hospitals in Pietermaritzburg, namely Medi Clinic, Northdale, Greys, and St Annes Hospital and addressd the mothers in all maternity wards regarding issues around child care, sexual offences, and domestic violence.
GOTG supported the campaign by contributing 200 Personal Hygiene Packs.
2 police officers were killed in a shootout with gunmen on the N3 highway near Modderfontein. Each family has lost a father, husband, brother and friend and we the community have lost guardian angels.
