Fire in Slovoville 22 December 2014

Gift of the Givers responds to fire at the Slovoville informal settlement in Coronationville, Gauteng. Distribution takes place at 11am on 23/12/2014.

Everything was bought, packed and ready. Slovoville residents were only awaiting arrival of transport and they would soon be celebrating Christmas with their loved ones in rural South Africa. Tragedy struck. Fire destroyed all their gifts, belongings and their Christmas joy. Gift of the Givers responds today with supplies for the 200 families who lost everything. Tornado in Soweto 25 November 2014

A tornado hit Protea Glen, Soweto at 14:30 on the 24th November. 34 houses damaged women and children slept in houses with leaking roofs, broken windows and wet furniture.

GOTG assessed the area and responded with Food Parcels for the affected households to alleviate the pressure. Many of the employed people could not attend work as they tried to rebuild their homes, this in turn negatively affects

Alexandra Eviction 05 June 2014

Taking residence in empty buildings that have otherwise become abandoned is a solution to homelessness for many impoverished South Africans who await land set aside for low cost housing.

On 04 June 2014, families squatting in factories in Alexandra were evicted and moved to a temporary shelter in Marlboro Hall. Gift of the Givers was contacted by Disaster Management to provide aid to the 90

Fire in Cato Manor 25 May 2014

Gift of the Givers provides emergency aid to 45 people in the informal settlement of Cato Manor after a fire burnt through their community. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Water Crisis in Bloemhof 05 June 2014

Local clinics and hospitals were flooded by the Bloemhof community with an outbreak of severe diarrhoea after the water supply was contaminated by an unconfirmed source. The contaminated water sadly claimed the lives of 3 babies and left several ill.

The Gift of the Givers team handed over 3 Food Parcels to the bereaved families.

Fire in Bridgetown 28 April 2014

Gift of the Givers assists 7 families in Bridgetown, Western Cape, with 7 Food Parcels and 32 Blankets. The 2 houses and 5 backyard dwellings were destroyed in a fire caused by a candle that fell over in one of the homes.
