GOTG & SA Embassy Celebrate Mandela Day in Desert Village

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela

Gift of the Givers West Africa will be commemorating Mandela Day (18 July) with the South African Embassy at the Centre for the Mother and Child at its new eco-building based in the desert city of Ma'tamoulana, Mauritania.

The South African Ambassador to Mauritania, Louis Pienaar, and the SA Embassy staff will be honoring the day of service by visiting the centre, planting trees and donating teaching aids to the centre. Gift of the Givers is currently building the Centre for the Mother and Child, a traditional Mauritanian educational institute for women of all ages, in the desert village of Matamoulana located in the south east of the country.

Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world by inspiring everyone to take action and make the world a better place.
