Since the beginning of 2012, Gift of the Givers has facilitated basic education services for scores of learners in the country.
Some 2 800 children from some of the country’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable households are supported through the provision of stationery, learning materials and uniforms so as to enable their continued schooling. In view of the fact that these young learners are the product of extremely poor families, Gift of the Givers ensures that said learners are regularly provided nourishing food parcels designed to last an average family of five a period of a month. Such an intervention has a double benefit – that of alleviating hunger, as well as providing a learner incentive, encouraging their attendance at school.
In addition, the organisation provides an ongoing daily school feeding scheme, aimed at orphans and other vulnerable children, a move which has witnessed a significant reduction in school drop-out rates.
