Given that numerous families in Somalia have little or, worse, no access to medical facilities because of cost issues, extreme distances and mobility problems, amongst many other obstacles, outreach exercises are considered crucial.
Gift of the Givers has established a number of outreach centres and it is from these centres that the organisation deploys is health-care teams into needy communities and IDP camps.
The organisation’s Primary Healthcare Outreach intervention essentially comprises mobile medical teams, geared to reach remote areas. Not only does the initiative act as an EMS, but our group of field workers regularly visit IDP camps to provide free primary health-care, vaccinations, medical consultations and medication to families in need of medical assistance.
In addition, the team is also able to offer counselling for and the treatment of patients with incurable diseases and who may be in need of palliative care.
