We have witnessed the carnage that has emanated from Covid-19 infections worldwide medically speaking. But in its wake it has left huge hunger especially on the African continent where disease, hunger, malnutrition and famine are prevalent long before Covid-19.
Communities in the African continent look forward to a yearly event that brings them joy, supports the rural economy, increases faith and instills hope. That event is the religious injunction of Qurbani performed on the 10, 11 and 12 of Zil Hajj, an event that promotes the sale of sheep, cattle and camels, supporting indigent, rural farmers, and simultaneously providing meat to impoverished communities that enjoy this "luxury" once a year only.
Gift of the Givers focuses it's Qurbani activities in the south of the continent in Malawi at R750 per share and in West Africa in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso at R850 per share. Supporting the indigent in the time of privation is a Quranic injunction. Qurbani can be used as an occasion to increase Sadqa contribution which in turn averts hardship, difficulties and tribulations. When we are in difficulty others are in a similar or even greater difficulty. Compassion, sharing and generosity is the hallmark of believers.
