Empowering Communities In Malawi

“TOGETHER, WE EXPLORE PROJECTS THAT RISE TO SOCIAL CHALLENGES AND UPLIFT GENERATIONS TO COME."

In 2020, of 189 countries measured, Malawi was placed 174by the UN HDI; a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development, being:

  • A long and healthy life;
  • Access to knowledge; and
  • A decent standard of living.

According to World Bank data, statistics reveal that Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and the lack of opportunity within the country simply perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

"My house used to collapse every rainfall season, and sometimes during strong winds. We were therefore forced to sleep in the open before having it reconstructed again", these were the experiences of Abigail Makwemba for as long as she has lived. Abigail, 58, and Elida Cassim, 67 come from poor households at Makalani village in Blantyre in dilapidated houses unsafe for shelter. They are beneficiaries of the shelter project by One Nation where they have received two beautiful houses constructed by Gift of the Givers with funding from One Nation UK. The project which has taken close to 3 months to complete has brought joy and happiness to the two beneficiaries and the people in the community as this is a step closer towards the 20 houses One Nation promised to construct at Makalani Village. With the addition of these two houses, a total of 12 houses have been constructed at Makalani village so far.Together we can make a difference:🌐 : www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference📞 : +265 888 23 40 00#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference#ForTheGreaterGood #31yearsofServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Shelter #Malawi ... In Malawi, where an estimated 70% of the population grapples with poverty, the challenges of food insecurity, limited income, and poor housing conditions are stark. Among the most vulnerable are the elderly, facing the brunt of financial struggles. In Makalani village, Blantyre, One Nation and Gift of the Givers are dismantling the barriers of poverty through a transformative housing project, bringing safe and secure homes to two elderly households.Four years have passed since One Nation, in partnership with Gift of the Givers, provided homes for ten elderly households in the same Makalani area. This ongoing project stands as a testament to the positive impact our collaboration brings to vulnerable communities in Malawi.Elida Kassim, one of the elderly beneficiaries witnessing her new home take shape, expressed profound joy: “I am so happy to see this project coming to life before my eyes. With my old age, this is probably the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me. I have always feared that my home would collapse from heavy rains because it is very old. But now, I will be able to live in peace knowing that I have a new home. Thank you, One Nation and Gift of the Givers.”This heart-warming endeavour reflects our shared commitment to transforming lives and ensuring dignified living conditions for those in need.Together, we break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future! 💚🏡:🌐: www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference#GiftoftheGivers #MakeADifference #ForTheGreaterGood #31Years #ServingHumanity#HumanDevelopment #Housing #OneNationUk #Malawi ...
